WHO WE ARE

Chaldea began in 2022 as the personal creative outlet for Colby Buck, envisioned initially as a solo instrumental venture exploring dark, atmospheric soundscapes. The project’s first two demos, The Seer and From Dust, established its core identity, but also revealed that a core element was missing. The foundations were there, but the music needed a voice powerful enough to match the scale and emotion behind the compositions.

A one-off single, Black Moon, was created in collaboration with vocalist Alex Caron. His performance added the raw intensity the songs demanded, and it became clear that vocals were no longer optional. During the early writing stages of The Edge of Perdition, Colby brought in Lord Distortion to helm the vocal duties for the EP. His presence transformed the sonic direction of the project, and he soon became a defining pillar of Chaldea’s sound.

In 2026, Chaldea reached its next major milestone with the release of its first full-length album, Between HEaven and Earth. Building upon the atmosphere and intensity established on The Edge of Perdition, the album represented the project at its most fully realized to date, expanding its sound across a larger and more ambitious body of work.

Chaldea remains an online-only project, a collaboration built entirely through digital communication and shared artistic vision. There are no current plans to perform live or expand the lineup; the project exists exactly as intended, free to evolve without the constraints of a traditional band structure.

The current lineup consists of Colby on guitar, while also digitally producing all other instrumentation and handling the final mix and master. Lord Distortion provides vocals and serves as the project’s primary lyricist.

ART

Originally, from the release of the early demos through to The Edge of Perdition, AI-generated imagery was a major part of our visual identity. At the time, this technology was a new frontier, and it offered a quick and exciting way to experiment with themes that matched the evolving sound of the project. But as the trend exploded across every creative medium, it quickly became clear that its ubiquity came with a cost. The aesthetic began to feel impersonal and inorganic; more like an algorithmic imitation of imagination rather than a true extension of artistic intent. And that’s not to mention the growing concerns around authorship, originality, and potential copyright issues tied to the use of such tools.

With our upcoming album, we wanted to take a deliberate step away from that direction and reclaim a more human, storied visual tradition. For this album, we chose to pay homage to classical painter John Martin (1789–1854), whose apocalyptic landscapes and sweeping biblical visions embody the same sense of cosmic scale, ruin, and transcendence that our music strives to invoke. His paintings capture a grandeur that feels both divine and catastrophic; towering architecture crumbling beneath storms of light, humanity dwarfed by the forces of creation and destruction. It’s the exact emotional palette that defines this album. Various pieces of Martin’s artwork were used throughout the album’s promotional material.
